Afghanistan and Haiti: tools and resources to bolster communication, community engagement and accountability in the response

It has been a devastating week. Afghanistan fell to the Taliban on 15 August 2021, and with it an escalation in forced displacement and increase in humanitarian needs. A day earlier, on August 14, an earthquake struck Haiti, the epicentre of which was approximately 125km from the capital Port-au-Prince. The death toll has climbed past 1,300, with close to 6,000 people injured. Tropical Depression Grace, predicted to bring heavy rain, flooding and landslides to the country, is expected to make landfall on the evening of August 16. All of this occurring at a time when COVID-19 continues to surge.

The CDAC Network, its members and partners have spent over a decade developing tools and resources for use by those responding to crises, such as that currently impacting communities in Afghanistan and the wider region, and in Haiti, to ensure communication, community engagement and accountability are embedded in the emergency response plan.
